Making a Production Company

Making a logo and production company

In order to make a successful and realistic fictional production company, I needed a good name and logo. I was thinking about using my internet alias, “Toebex” as it sounds good and also I have some good logos for it:

However, recently, I have been looking through some of my old films and saw one called “The Edge”. Instantly, I knew that “Edge Productions” sounds more professional, and along with this, I have made a professional looking logo for the name.

I will be using this name and logo in my video and for the poster if needs be.

Copyright Fixing

In order to legally use this song in my video, I would have had to contact the creator for permission. However, upon some further research into the song, I found out that he has made a few song that are free to use. "ShutEmDown" was one of them.

Final Song Choice

Final song choice:

Instantly, I ruled out all of the calmer songs as they just werent interesting enough. When looking at the heavier songs, I cut it down to two. "Terminal" by Renard and "ShutEmDown" by Celldweller. I chose these songs out of all of them as they are extremely up beat and would be very fun to edit to.

They are both of similar length and both get into the main part of the song quickly so I wouldnt have to make the intro too long and drawn out. "Terminal" is slightly longer, but the ending does go on for quite a while. In some cases, is may even be too fast paced as it would be difficult to have the editing make sense if it going that fast. "ShutEmDown" is slightly shorter and each beat has more space in between. Also the into really gets you into the song before it even drops. I could easily use the same narrative I would be using for "Terminal".

Also, when looking at both songs, I need to take into account the style of the song and the general look of the album / artist as I am going to be making a website and advert for them.

"Terminal" Album cover:

"ShutEmDown" Album Cover

It is a tough choice as the songs are so similar. They have a god intro, start with a mental chorus, have a calm in the middle and get straight back into the main film. In the end though, I have decided to go with "ShutEmDown" by Celldweller as it is a tab bit slower and would be able to have a more understandable narrative to go along with it. Also, the calm in the middle is slightly calmer in a way and could give me a chance to slow the pace for longer. As for the all the other songs, they would just be too boring.

Initial Song Ideas

Initial Ideas for songs:

In order to make a music video, a good song is needed. The main focus I want for the song is for it to include little to no lyrics. The main reason for this is because if a song contains lyrics, you usually want to see whoever is singing it. There are exceptions though. If the lyrics used are synthesized and aren't really lyrics that add to the "story" or "meaning" of the song, you don't need to express who would be singing it. I really want to get away from the generic music video. They are boring to watch and would be very boring to make in my opinion. As I said before, I would want it to be very fast paced and have some sort of narratvie. However, contrary to what I said before, It could be also nice to make a more relaxed video that has a far better story line. I have listed a few songs below from each genre.

Some example songs I would like to use:

Heavy:

Terminal - Renard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqUdqn3ei5g&list=FL1y5APzVhqgqJbzyzFPk-3g&index=53&feature=plpp_video&safe=active

Music Video Pitch

Pitch for my Music video

1) For my brief, I have chosen to make a Music video along with A Digipak and an advertisement for the digipak/artist. I chose this brief mainly because I wanted to make a full short film, but I wanted to use my tight editing skills to make something interesting. I am bad at writing scripts so I came to the conclusion that I should just make a music video. I have a very clear idea of what song genre I would like to use, but also I want to make a different style of music video. I dont want to include the artist in the video, I want it to have a story line and to be as interesting as possible. Essentially, my aim is to created a shot film but in the style of a music video.

2) The sub-tasks I have decided to chose are the digipak and the digipak advertisement. I was contemplating making a website for it, but I figured it would be too much work and making an actual pack would be more interesting. When it comes to making the advertisement, I think I'll make one for the artist him/herself, then say that a digipak is available to buy.

3) I am going to use skills that I have gained while making my last media project, the short opening sequence, and also skill I have learned over the time I have been making small films/music videos for my entertainment. This involves syncing the clips with the music, quick editing pace and simple but effective effects. I will also need to keep an interesting story throughout the whole video just so it stays interesting.

4) For the main part of the editing, I am going to be using a software pack called Final Cut Studio 3 which contains Final Cut Pro 7, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro and other misc. peices of software that could aid me. FCP7 (Final Cut Pro 7) is what I will be using for most of the editing, Motion 4 will be for motion graphics and SountrackPro will be very useful if I have to edit audio. I don't think I will need to edit audio for this as the only audio I am using is the audio from the song. I will also try and use Cinema4D if I need to make any sort of 3D elements for the film, and in addition to this, I will be using C4D if I need to make 3D titles for the advertisement. Linking with the advertisement, Photoshop and Illustrator CS5 to create the poster and make any graphical elements needed.

5) When researching for this music videos, I am not only going to be looking at music videos. I want to try and look at some short films in addition to this so that I cant think about what narrative I would like to use. Another reason why I wont only be looking at music videos is because a large proportion of music videos will be the generic, "show artist signing, have some dancers, bit of a story but not really" sort of video, however I have seen some music videos in the past that are to my preference. For the poster, i will research adverts for items such as digipaks, cars, technology etc. as they always have clean and well designed advertisements.

6) I have decided I will be working by myself for this project for a few reasons. Firstly, I work best by myself because I dont have to worry about other people ideas conflicting with mine. I would like to just get on and do what I want to do. Secondly, it is difficult to schedule filming or editing with someone else as opposed to with yourself as you can do it whenever you want. Finally, I feel more comfortable working by myself. I dont feel like I need too much help. I want to learn by myself so I can better myself as a person.
